This book Outlines of Islamic History By Mazhar ul Haq is an abridgment of my book “A Short History of Islam”. It includes such portions as deal with historical events and movements, along with their causes and consequences, and excludes what we may call the philosophy of Islamic History. The reason is simple. The aim of this book is to acquaint a beginner with the facts of Islamic History without their interpretation. Its purpose is to explain what Islamic History has been. This book is meant to be only a stepping-stone for higher studies in Islamic History. A reader interested in the “why” of the Islamic History, may consult the detailed book “A Short History of Islam”. It may be helpful to mention here the method of transliterating the Arabic names and terms, which I have adopted in this book.
